Who we are

These terms cover this website and the emails, guides and calls that come from it. “We” and “us” mean Ask the Bumpkin, a small project based in the UK.

You can reach us at askthebumpkin@gmail.com. By joining or using the site, you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t join.

02What you get

The free ACORN Welcome

The ACORN Welcome is a free 5-week welcome to country life. It includes:

• The Townie’s Guide to Country Life and the First-Week Country Manners Checklist.
• Five short emails, one a week, one for each letter of ACORN: Ask, Countryfolk, Observe, Respect, Neighbour.
• Invitations to our monthly live Q&A call.

To join, you send us an email from your own email app. For now we reply by hand, so please be patient with us.

03Cost

It’s free, and no payment is taken

The ACORN Welcome costs nothing. We don’t ask for a card and we don’t take payment. If we ever offer something to buy, we will say so clearly, and you will only pay if you choose to.

04Advice

General information only

What we share is general information about country life. It is not professional, legal, planning or land advice, and you shouldn’t rely on it as if it were.

For advice on planning, boundaries, rights of way disputes or anything to do with land, please speak to a solicitor or a land agent. Things are sometimes done differently from place to place. We try to be accurate, and if we don’t know an answer, we’ll say so.

05Manners

Live calls

Our live calls are for everyone to learn from, so please be respectful to the host and to the other people on the call. Every question is welcome, and nobody gets sneered at.

We may remove anyone who isn’t respectful. Places on each call are limited to 30, and subscribers are invited first.

We may record a call and send the recording to everyone who joined. If you would rather not be in a recording, tell us before the call and send your question by email instead.

06Ownership

Our content is ours

The guides, checklists, emails and videos we make belong to us. You are welcome to read, watch and use them for your own personal use.

Please don’t copy, resell or republish them without asking us first.

07The offer

We may change or stop the free offer

Ask the Bumpkin is new, and we are still finding our feet. We may change what the free ACORN Welcome includes, or stop offering it. If we make a big change, we’ll tell you by email.

08Responsibility

Our liability is limited

As far as the law allows, we are not responsible for any loss or damage that comes from relying on what we share, or from the site or emails being unavailable or containing a mistake.

Nothing in these terms limits anything the law doesn’t allow us to limit, such as responsibility for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.

10Updates

Changes to these terms

We may change these terms from time to time. When we do, we’ll update the date at the top of this page. If you carry on using the site or the free ACORN Welcome after a change, we’ll take that as you being happy with the new version.
